Poland Trip 2023 - Wednesday

We started off the day by davening at an old shul in Wladowa, which had a thriving Jewish community before the war. We spoke about the many forms of resistance throughout the Holocaust, including that of the Rebbe M’Radzin, whose community moved to Wladowa when the war broke out. We continued our discussion about resistance in Sobibor, where we learned about the stories of uprising in both Sobibor and Treblinka. Afterwards, we traveled to Majdanek, which was a very chilling experience, as most of the camp remains intact. We toured the camp and viewed the gas chambers, barracks, and crematorium, then had a moving tekes about the value of using what Hashem gives us for good. Then, we went to visit the Lublin cemetery and spoke about the Maharshal and the Chozeh of Lublin, who are buried there. As our last stop of the day, we went to the Yeshivas Chochmei Lublin, a very esteemed yeshiva from before WWII, and learned there. We spoke about the head of the yeshiva, Rav Meir Shapira, who founded the daf yomi cycle. Finally, we returned to the hotel for dinner and settled in for the night.
