Sharon ElsantSharon Elsant, alumna of 2001-2, is married to Jay Weinstein. They have 2 children, Ora, 2 and Ayal, 2 months.
Sharon and Jay have been living in Dallas, Texas for over a year, and are actively involved in the Jewish community. Sharon is currently working at Yavneh Academy, a modern Orthodox high school in Dallas, teaching various Judaic studies including Chumash and Oral Law as well as mathematics. As opposed to the typical NY schools Sharon attended as a student, the classes in Dallas are much smaller, and consist of students from more diverse Jewish backgrounds. Together with the other full time Judaic studies faculty, Sharon is involved in planning and coordinating additional Judaic programming, thereby providing the students with an appreciation of various aspects of Judaism beyond the classroom text study.
Aside from her work at school, Sharon also gives occasional shiurim for men and women at Shaare Tefillah, the shul where her husband is the assistant Rabbi, and also learns b'chevruta with girls and women from the community.
Motivated by her personal desire to get to play team sports again, Sharon has also initiated an informal women's basketball league which play weekly during the school year.
When asked about her year at Midreshet Lindenbaum Sharon says that the Beit Midrash was definitely the highlight of her year
"Being in a large room whose walls were covered with sefarim which I could not wait to learn how to use, and being surrounded by intellectual, capable , and motivated young women learning at all hours of the day was an opportunity I am so thankful to have had.
I was also blown away by the immense knowledge and Torah-based lifestyle of the teachers at Midreshet Lindenbaum, and can honestly say that for the entire school year I never left my 4 hour Tanach shiur (which sometimes went for the full 4 hours straight) even when I really needed to, because I knew that the time I had to learn from these teachers was so precious" |
